Who is eligible to be a member?
A person is eligible for full membership of the Association who
(1) supports the purposes of the Association; and
(2) either
a. has successfully completed a training in group psychotherapy conducted by the AAGP or equivalent international body recognised by the Committee;
or
b. has
i. a tertiary qualification from a university or tertiary institution recognised by the Committee; and
ii. is a clinically qualified member of ; and
iii. can demonstrate by virtue of experience, supervision, learning and personal psychotherapy his/her competence in the theory and practice of group psychotherapy and
(3) if in clinical practice, holds appropriate professional indemnity insurance; and
(4) is nominated and seconded by two members of the Association.
Application for membership
(1) To apply to become a member of the Association, a person must submit to the Secretary the full membership form and pro forma applications, available at the bottom of this page, stating the person
a. wishes to become a member of the Association; and
b. supports the purposes of the Association; and
c. agrees to comply with these Rules.
(2) The application
a. must be signed by the applicant; and
b. signed by two members of the Association, one a nominee, the other a seconder; and
c. Provide evidence of clinical qualification, training and experience as set out above
Who is eligible to be an associate member?
A person is eligible to be an associate member who
(1) supports the purposes of the Association, and
(2) is one or more of the following
a. a student of the AAGP training program following completion of the theoretical seminar component of the training.
b. a student who has completed the formal seminars of another psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy training program.
c. a member or associate member of :
The Australian Psychoanalytical Society
The Group Analytic Society
The American Group Psychotherapy Association
The International Association of Group Psychotherapy
The Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association of Australasia
The Australian & New Zealand Society of Jungian Analysts
The Child Psychotherapy Association of Australia
The Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis
The Freudian School of Melbourne
The Australian & New Zealand Psychodrama Association
Any other professional association the Committee deems to be compatible with the interests of the Association;
d. any other professional person who has a demonstrated interest in group psychotherapy or related fields (eg, organisational psychology).
Application for associate membership
(1) To apply to become an associate member of the Association, a person must submit to the Secretary the associate membership form and pro forma applications, available at the bottom of this page, stating that the person
a. wishes to become a member of the Association; and
b. supports the purposes of the Association; and
c. agrees to comply with these Rules
(2) The application –
a. must be signed by the applicant; and
b. signed by two members of the Association, one a nominee, the other a seconder; and
c. provide evidence of clinical qualification, training and experience or professional membership as set out above
The completed application forms are to be sent to the secretary, 30 days prior to the next Committee of Management meeting.
